For many years I traveled from where ever I lived in the States to Canada, to visit my son. I think about this photo once in a while. It was taken in Elbow, Saskatchewan, the summer of 2000. The house on the right is an old mud house made by the sons of the pioneers in those parts. With its dilapidated state, some of the men of the town old enough to remember how to do it built it’s new version, the one on the left. I heard about it on a CBC radio show while visiting Stefan. We drove out to take a look. I’m glad the men decided to put their knowledge to use for the good of community while they had a chance, preserve their heritage, teach the younger men a thing a or to, and make a trip for a father and son memorable.
